Build the deck

Ask an agent through the official OpenRoom plugin, add questions in the deck editor, or import YAML. An agent can also start the session and return its code.

Start session

Open the stage on the projector. Participants join with the code or QR image shown there.

Open a question, reveal the result, then advance. Add a countdown when voting should close at a set time.

Prepare elsewhere. Teach in OpenRoom.

OpenRoom complements the tutor. It gives an external preparation agent a complete, typed delivery surface while the tutor remains responsible for the teaching.

Give material to your agent

Open the school documents in OpenRoom Desktop's built-in agent chat — signed in with your own agent account — or in another MCP client. The agent works through the material and drafts an Outline.

Review the deck

The agent validates and saves the outline as a deck version. Open it in the deck editor, check the sequence and edit anything you want to teach differently.

Teach it live

Start the session and move through explanations, terms, activities and questions. Participants see the current step online or beside you on a tablet.

Write the Notes

Save outcomes, tutor notes, homework and selected artifacts. OpenRoom keeps neither the source documents nor a transcript of the preparation conversation.

Six question types and 12 result views

Choose from bars, columns, donut, pie, radial, emoji pulse, dots, gauge, histogram, list, word cloud and ordered bars. The available views depend on the question type.

Choice

Single or multiple selection, with True/False and Yes/No presets. Add a correct answer or a discussion followed by a second vote.

Scale

A numbered scale with labels at both ends and an optional “don't know” answer.

Numeric

A number. Set a correct answer and tolerance for estimation questions.

Text

A written answer shown as a list or word cloud. Add accepted answers for a short-answer quiz.

Q&A

A dedicated question block where participants submit questions and vote them up.

Ranking

Participants order the options. Results use Borda count, and quizzes can define one correct order.

Connect an agent

The official OpenRoom plugin connects any MCP client. An external agent can prepare a typed tutoring deck from local school material, save it, start a session and help the tutor deliver it. OpenRoom receives the outline, not the original documents or the model conversation.

  • Safety: normal delete is recoverable; permanent deletion always ends in a signed-in browser confirmation.

OpenRoom includes five themes

Each theme has light and dark color tokens. The host can change the theme while a session is live, and the participant and projector views update with it. Tests check the text colors against WCAG AA contrast ratios.

Participant and session data

Handles stay inside one session

OpenRoom generates each participant handle. It never asks participants for a name and never links a handle across sessions. Hosts can select anonymous mode. A tutoring session can use identified mode, where the name is the one the tutor wrote on the context and the session opens only to that context’s access link.

Access links are not accounts

A tutor can give a student a revocable link to that student’s own sessions and Notes. It creates no account and no sign-in, reaches one context and nothing else, expires, and never carries the tutor’s private notes or a join code.

Live state expires

OpenRoom ends a session after 12 hours without activity. It purges ballots and participant records 30 minutes after the end, then deletes the live session after 24 hours.

No advertising or analytics

The browser apps contain no ads, trackers or analytics scripts, and they load assets from the OpenRoom origin.

Answer keys stay hidden

Participant and projector clients do not receive correct answers or host notes before the host reveals the result.

OpenRoom is a public beta and a working name. The hosted service runs at openroom.app. OpenRoom has not completed a 500-participant load test.

Frequently asked questions

Does the hosted service cost anything?

No. OpenRoom has no paid tier or billing system. A signed-in host can start up to 20 sessions in a rolling 24-hour period.

Who needs an account?

The hosted beta uses Google sign-in for hosts. Your first sign-in creates an account so you can save decks and start sessions. Participants enter the 8-character session code or scan the QR code and answer without an account or app. Tutors can also issue a student an access link to that student’s own records; it is a revocable link scoped to one context, not an account, so there is still nothing for a student to sign up for.

What can an agent do with the OpenRoom plugin?

An agent can turn your instructions into a poll or quiz, check it, start and control an owned session, and read session status and aggregate results. For tutoring it can manage presentation contexts, decks, versions and compact session records through the same user-scoped service as the browser.

How do tutor-led sessions work?

Give the school material to an agent. It prepares a typed deck and saves the result to OpenRoom. The tutor reviews the outline, starts a synchronized session and controls each step. OpenRoom does not receive the original documents or the model conversation.

What interaction types does OpenRoom support?

Six: choice, scale, numeric, text, Q&A and ranking. Choice and text questions can mark correct answers, ranking can define a correct order, and any question can use a countdown that closes voting when time expires.

What happens to participant data?

OpenRoom gives each participant a generated handle that works only inside that session. A host can choose anonymous mode instead, or, for a tutoring session, identified mode, where the name shown is the one the tutor wrote on the context and the session opens only to that context’s access link. Participants are never asked for a name in any mode. OpenRoom removes ballots and participant records 30 minutes after the session ends, then deletes the live session 24 hours after the end.

How many participants can join?

The target is 500 participants in one session. OpenRoom has not completed a load test at that size, so 500 is not a verified capacity.
